After practicing Architecture for 16 years, Sandra obtained a Masters degree in Environmental Management at UCT in 2003. Thereafter she consulted independently and worked in association with the Environmental Evaluation Unit, UCT. Her work at the EEU spanned various sectors and disciplines and required engagement with a wide diversity of stakeholders including government, the private sector, NGOs and civil society groups. Sandra led the Environmental Management and Sustainability node within the EEU for the period 2009 -2011.

At the EEU, Sandra was responsible for managing several complex projects in the field of environmental assessment and sustainable development. These projects were wide-ranging and included those concerned with integrating environmental sustainability considerations into Integrated Development Planning processes at the local government level to Environmental Impact Assessments for a range of renewable energy projects in the Western Cape.

From 2008-2014 Sandra has worked on a contract basis for the UCT’s Properties and Services Department as a sustainability advisor and works closely with the student movement, the Green Campus Initiative (GCI). She is a guest lecturer in a range of departments at UCT.

Independent consulting work in the last decade has focused on built environment projects, providing input to sustainable design, construction, materials, building operation, and feasibility studies of greening interventions and retrofits. Sandra has been an Accredited Professional of the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) since 2009, and can undertake assessments and certifications in terms of the Green Star SA rating tools.
